Display Energy Certificates

Display Energy Certificates (DEC’s) are now legally required on buildings that are occupied in whole or part by public authorities or institutions providing public services which have a total useful floor area greater than 1000m2.

Designed to raise public awareness of energy use, the DEC informs visitors about the energy use of a public building over the previous 12 months by placing it in a prominent position clearly visible to the public.

The DEC must be produced by a qualified energy assessor and is calculated using actual energy readings from the building every 12 months. On the certificate the previous 2 years of energy readings will also be shown on the certificate to show a decrease / increase in energy use for the building in a bid to encourage energy saving.

Along with the certificate, an advisory report is also produce to identify where energy saving can be made.
